Indonesia celebrates “Visit Indonesia Year 2008”
In good time for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Indonesian independence movement in year 2008, the Republic of Indonesia invites tourists to the “Visit Indonesia Year 2008”. More than 100 further events and festivals on numerous islands of the archipelago, including sports, cultural, lifestyle and MICE events, are in the pipeline.
Ministry of Culture and Tourism was launched Visit Indonesia Year 2008 on Wednesday, 26 Dec 2007, with the main aim of luring up to 7 million foreign tourists and booking US$6.4 billion in foreign exchange income. The government held its first Visit Indonesia program in 1991, which was not particularly successful, increasing the number of foreign tourists by merely 400,000 from the year earlier, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). BPS data show that in 1991, around 2.5 million foreign tourists visited the country, from 2.1 million in the previous year. (The Jakarta Post)
Among others, highlights include the big Waisak festival in the honour of Buddha which is traditionally celebrated at Borobudur on May 19 and 20, and the Jakarta nternational Java Jazz Festival.
Regional events include the Madura bull race, the Ubud Festival on Bali, the Jakarta Indonesia Golf Open, the traditional Toraja burial ceremonies on Sulawesi and the Ambon yacht race, which only represent a selection of the highlights to invite tourists from all over the world to the Indonesian archipelago (click to visit My Indonesia).
Finally, I would like to say:
Happy New Year 2008
(SELAMAT TAHUN BARU 2008)
It’s time to visit, Indonesia
